Biography
Joe Baier is an associate at BFA and represents plaintiffs in federal class actions and related appellate litigation. Joe has substantial experience in a variety of aspects of litigation, including investigating and drafting claims, briefing dispositive and other motions, managing discovery efforts, taking depositions, working closely with experts, preparing for summary judgment and trial, and briefing appeals.
Joe was a member of the teams that prosecuted actions against Talis Biomedical Corporation ($32.5 million settlement, pending final approval) and Bioventus Inc. ($15.24 million settlement). He was also a member of the appellate team that successfully defended the settlement on appeal in In re Facebook, Inc., Consumer Privacy Litigation (9th Cir. 2025)—the largest recovery ever in a data privacy class action. Joe is currently litigating actions against Twist Bioscience and TD Bank.
Prior to joining the Firm, Joe served as a law clerk to the Honorable Andrew L. Brasher of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Honorable Rodolfo A. Ruiz II of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Before clerking, Joe was an associate at the Washington, D.C. office of Sidley Austin where his practice focused on representing clients in investigations before the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as in appellate litigation before the United States Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Joe graduated cum laude from Duke University School of Law where he served on the Editorial Board of the school’s law review and was a member of the Duke Moot Court and Mock Trial boards. He placed first overall in the Duke Law Jessup Cup Moot Court Tournament open to all Duke Law students and was a finalist in the Twiggs Beskind Trial Competition.
