BFA Receives Final Approval of $307.5 Million Settlement in Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep EcoDiesel Case
U.S. District Judge Edward M. Chen of the Northern District of California granted Plaintiffs’ Motion for Final Approval of a $307.5 million settlement from Fiat Chrysler and Bosch ($280 million from Fiat Chrysler and $27.5 million from Bosch) over claims alleging that the companies cheated emissions testing for Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, model years 2014 to 2016. As part of the settlement agreement, consumers will receive a substantial cash payment of up to $3,000, a vehicle repair, and a comprehensive extended warranty.
Judge Chen appointed BFA partner Lesley Weaver to serve on the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in this case In re: Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep EcoDiesel Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation, MDL 17-MD-02777-EMC.
The case involves claims alleging that Fiat and Bosch cheated emissions testing by using “defeat device” software designed to artificially lower emissions while the vehicle underwent testing. In conjunction with Plaintiffs' settlement, the Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board will approve modifications that bring these vehicles into compliance with emissions standards.
Owners and lessees of Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0-liter diesel vehicles from model years 2014 to 2016 are eligible to file claims and receive the settlement’s benefits.
